October 17, 2025
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The current province-wide strike and lockout are set to enter a third week. At this time, I am unaware of any update other than the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) and Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) have re-engaged in negotiations; however, I would like to provide you with a couple of reminders.
As you are aware, the Government of Alberta has offered financial support to families during the labour action. If you need any help accessing the link, or are seeking additional information, please visit the Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD)’s ATA Labour Action website.
I also want to remind you of the upcoming municipal and school trustee elections on Monday, October 20. If you are a resident of Ward 7 - Grande Prairie East and Grovedale, you have the opportunity to vote for your PWPSD Trustee. Please visit our 2025 Election website for voting locations and Ward 7 candidate information. The last day of advanced voting is Saturday, October 18.
One final reminder, while our schools remain closed, you may notice PWPSD school buses on the road. Once a week, our bus drivers will run their bus to ensure they are ready to return to school when the strike ends.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this challenging time. I hope an agreement is reached soon, and look forward to seeing all our teachers and students back at school. I wish you all a good weekend and am hoping to have good news to report soon.
Sincerely,
Shawn O’Shea
Superintendent of Schools
Peace Wapiti Public School Division
