Rycroft students receive free hot lunch thanks to community sponsors

Lunch

Rycroft School's Family Feast and Fun, served by the local Merry Pioneers grandmas.

The students at Rycroft School have been enjoying free hot lunches every Friday thanks to a group of dedicated volunteers and key sponsors. What used to be a student-paid meal program, has become complimentary lunches for every student and staff member on each Friday that class is in session.

School Council members Larissa Parliament and Santana Orel say that seeing the program evolve has been extremely rewarding, “The transition from a student-paid program to complimentary lunches ensures that every child, regardless of financial circumstances, receives a warm meal at school at least once a week. In addition to the weekly hot lunch, the program has expanded to offer special treats and events for students to enjoy.” They say the hope is these initiatives will help contribute to a warm, welcoming school environment where students and families feel supported and included.

Parliament says the success of the hot lunch program, which is fully funded through the generous donations of local businesses and organizations, is due to the incredible support from volunteers and exceptional leadership of Orel, who has been instrumental in organizing and coordinating the program.

Rycroft School and its School Council would like to thank its sponsors for supporting such an important program. The ongoing support of FCC, Secure, Tourmaline, Fountain Tire, Home Hardware, FCC Agri Spirit, PC Memorial, Birchcliff Energy, Coco Ag Society, UFA, Rycroft School staff, and the Friends of Rycroft School Board has allowed the program to become what it is today.
